PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION
The medical team is led by a Physiatrist, a medical doctor with specialization in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The Physiatrist prescribes the necessary therapy program for clients, supervises the delivery of medical care and closely monitors client progress.
The Primary Care physician is usually a medical doctor with a specialization in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. This team member provides the primary care services that are frequently needed by a disabled population. Primary care needs range from dealing with the common cold to managing more complex conditions.
NURSING SERVICES AND MEDICAL CASE MANAGEMENT
Registered Nurses (RN’s) are our front line in medical care and coordination. The RN’s manage the daily medical needs of our clients and coordinate all medical services, appointments and transportation. The Nursing team is in daily contact with the physicians, pharmacists, families and other stakeholders that together provide the necessary medical care that our clients require.
PROSTHETICS AND ORTHOTICS
Certain clients may require a prosthesis to replace a missing limb or an orthosis to stabilize a weak or paralyzed limb. Whatever the need, our transdisciplinary team is up to date on the latest technology. The team will make sure that the most advanced and appropriate devices are prescribed. Once the device has been fitted, the client can become comfortable with its use during regular physical and occupational therapy sessions.
OTHER MEDICAL SPECIALTIES
When necessary, physicians in other medical specialties are consulted about the client’s care. Throughout the client’s rehabilitation program, Universal is in close contact with the client’s personal physicians regarding recommendations for future medical and therapy needs.
